Kris John Alden, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Alden, a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, joined the Hinsdale Orthopaedics team from the University of Chicago Bone and Joint Replacement Center. Dr. Alden has expertise and special interest in hip and knee replacement, minimally invasive hip and knee surgery, revision joint replacement surgery and hip resurfacing.

Dr. Alden grew up in Hinsdale and attended medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  While there, he received a prestigious National Institute of Health fellowship to complete Biophysics research in the highly selective joint MD/PhD program.  After completing his MD/PhD degrees, Dr. Alden specialized in orthopedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He additionally concentrated on hip and knee reconstruction during a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

As the author of multiple scientific publications and book chapters in the fields of biophysics and arthritis surgery, Dr. Alden lectures and teaches courses for orthopaedic surgeons around the country. He has presented his clinical research at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and other national meetings and is actively involved in the development of new techniques in arthritis surgery.  Dr. Alden strives to significantly improve the quality of life for his patients, focusing especially on increasing their level of activity and mobility. With each of his patients, Dr. Alden views his role in as a partner, counselor, and facilitator to help his patients achieve their highest degree of health and well-being.
